Bob is a Massachusetts native who grew up in Boston.  His interest in art began as a small child when he regularly visited the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, which was close to his home.   His Irish parents were none too happy when he spent more time in school drawing pictures than listening to his teachers.  His boredom with school caused him to quit at the age of 16 to go to work.

In 1977 he began his career in art.  Private lessons with Taddeus Klodnicki, member of American Watercolor society ignited in him a love for impressionism and watercolor.

He entered Mount Wachusett Community College and earned an Associated Degree in Art.  Bob exhibited a talent in a variety of media.  Quite frankly, he thoroughly enjoyed the experience of studying - in fact he had a "ball".  He graduated in 1978 with high honors.

Bob is an active member of the Gardner and Leominster Art Associations.  He has been a past President and Treasurer of the Gardner Art Association where he still serves as a board member.  He is the President of the Leominster Art Association.  He is also a member of the Princeton Portrait Society.  Bob has conducted workshops and demonstrations.  He has taught watercolor at the Nashoba School.  He currently teaches beginners and intermediate watercolor at the Acton Boxboro School and the Ritter Library in Lunenburg.  He particularly enjoys demonstrating and painting with the students at the Fitchburg School system, the Lunenburg High School and the Cleghorn Neighborhood Center where he has a chance to mentor young aspiring artists.

Bob's paintings have been accepted at juried exhibitions such as the New England Watercolor Society, Springfield Art League, Academic Artists, Fitchburg Museum, Cape Cod Art Association and other exhibits.  His work has been exhibited at the Graceworks Gallery in Bolton and is currently on view at The Culley Street Frame Shop, Fitchburg in the upstairs Gallery.  The Culley Street Frame Shop is located on 88 Culley Street in Fitchburg,  Culley Street is located off Rt 2A at Slattery's Restaurant.  Virginia Guertin, and expert framer, owns the frame shop.

Painting is a full-time activity.  Bob's goal is to be juried into the American Watercolor Society and to teach his students that art is fun.  He has visited France, Germany and Hungary where he has found much to inspire his paintings.

The Artist at Work

This is a photo of me painting the boats on Barnstable Harbor on Cape Cod.  I am using a peanut butter tub to hold my water and prop up the painting.  When it is tilted up a little bit, it flows down, which is better than laying flat.  For the most part I paint while standing up.
